DRYER DUCT CLEANING

PREVENTIVE DRYER DUCT CLEANING

Dryer duct cleaning should not wait until the duct is clogged.  Dryer ducts should be cleaned as a preventive measure before you have any problems. How often? The answer depends on your installation and also on the use made of your dryer. In some cases, it is important to have the dryer duct preventively cleaned periodically every 5 years and in other cases, it is not necessary. In case the duct is very short, say a meter, you can clean it yourself with a vacuum cleaner. Preventive cleaning of the dryer duct is a good way to save on your electricity bills. Poorly cleaned dryer ducts frequently cause a dryer fire, yet it is so easy to prevent such a stupidly started fire.

WHEN TO CLEAN THE DRYER DUCT

If you own a large building and you need to schedule preventative dryer duct cleaning every 5 years. Ducts that are longer and curvy and those that exit to the roofs of multi-story buildings will sooner or later tend to accumulate lint. Clogged ducts cause several problems, the worst of which is starting a fire. As the owner or manager of a building, it is, therefore, your responsibility to do your homework to avoid such a disaster.

DRYER DUCT CLEANING FOR THE HOMEOWNER

When the owner of a house or a condominium unit calls us to clean his dryer duct it is usually because a problem has already arisen due to the accumulation of lint in the duct. Often the first symptom of the problem is difficulty in drying clothes after washing since the duct has difficulty removing the humid air from the dryer. If you do not have your dryer’s exhaust air duct cleaned at this point, your dryer will run into trouble quickly.

CLEAN THE AIR VENTILATION DUCTS

If you are a homeowner, also consider having the air ventilation ducts cleaned at home. Cleaning your ducts is important to ensure good indoor air quality by reducing the dust particles circulating in your indoor air. Particles often carry substances that are more or less harmful to health in the air. Among other things, it is recommended to clean the air ducts of the house that you have just bought or following a renovation or even in new construction. If a house is new, why have the ducts cleaned? Cleaning Experts cleans up after construction – renovation and, often there are large amounts of dust, screws, sawdust, or drywall in the ducts. However, this kind of dust is irritating to the respiratory tract.

THE DRYER REPAIRMAN RECOMMENDS THAT YOU HAVE YOUR DUCT CLEANED

One in three service calls for dryer duct cleaning in a private home was recommended by the repairman.  People with a drying problem will have the first instinct to question the proper functioning of the dryer itself. After checking your appliance, the repairer may find that the cause of the problem is a complete or partial obstruction of your dryer hose. At this point, the pity is that you will have to pay for the repairman’s visit and in addition to cleaning the duct which costs on average $ 150 depending on the company. The price is of course lower for preventive maintenance of several dryer outlets on a building with multiple units.

UNCLOGGING A CLOGGED DRYER DUCT

Sometimes people wait until the duct is completely blocked before taking action. Often times they believe that clothes drying is slower because the dryer is getting old and they let it get bad and then one day the dryer stops drying. In this case, it is possible that the fuse in the dryer will burn out and the dryer will completely stop producing heat during the drying cycle. It will therefore also be necessary to have this fuse replaced. We receive weekly emergency calls for similar cases.

THE PROCEDURE FOR CLEANING DRYER DUCTS IN BUILDINGS

We clean the dryer ducts with a long flexible rod connected to an air compressor that blows a powerful jet of air. The end of the rod is also equipped with a small rotating brush that dislodges dirt and destroys clogs in its path.  The air jet is very powerful and allows the lint to be blown up to the mouth of the duct to evacuate it outside. The work is done from the outside through the dryer outlet hatch on the roof or on the wall of the building. Flexible cleaning rods can be several hundred feet in length for installations with very long ducts.

If your dryer has stopped producing heat

If your dryer stays cool before you think about calling a repairman or cleaning the duct, check a few simple things first. Check if the heat level selection knob has simply accidentally been changed. Check your fuse panel. Turn “off” and reset the dryer fuse to “on”. And run the dryer to retest. If the dryer stays cold, call for service. If the dryer operates again, the electrical box circuit breaker may have tripped due to abnormal strain on the dryer. In this case, cleaning the dryer duct is recommended. If your dryer is excessively forceful due to improper evacuation of humid air, the fuse in the dryer will eventually burn out.

IF YOUR DRYER IS LOSING POWER, IT’S TIME TO CLEAN

Your dryer may still be very good. We are getting calls from consumers who have just bought a new dryer, which does not seem to be efficient. Often, however, it is simply because the duct is blocked.

THE PRICE OF DRYER DUCT CLEANING

If you are a condominium, the cleaning rate will be based on the number of units and access to the dryer duct outlets to the exterior. Prices will vary between $ 60 and $ 100 per conduit. The price will be lower for conduits grouped in a single exit to the roof. For an emergency call, it takes $ 150. Finally, if you are cleaning your ventilation ducts at home for the heating or the air exchanger.  You can take the opportunity to have your dryer duct cleaned for a price ranging from $ 0 to $ 50 depending on the company.
